Every year, we have a few birds that have to remain with us over the winter months. Since most of these birds migrate south for the winter, they are not used to the snow and cold, and therefore, need extra care and food. We have a program of sponsorship in place, that helps others to get involved in seeing that these beautiful birds make it to the spring, and get released.

HOW IT WORKS: Once you apply and are accepted to sponsor a bird, you receive a large photo of the bird you are sponsoring, as well as a certificate of sponsorship. You also receive a writeup of his story--how he got here, what medical issues he had or is having, and descriptions of his unique character and habits--in short, his journey through our facility. You also receive notification when your sponsored bird is to be released in the spring, and are invited to attend the release ceremony.

HOW MUCH IT COSTS: Sponsorship costs vary by the type of bird available. Larger raptors and owls are more expensive than smaller songbird residents.

WHO IS AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORING: In the winter of 2006/2007, we have 3 birds available for sponsoring.

"MERLIN" juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk	Merlin found himself on the wrong end of a collision with a car. He has made a full recovery, and is only waiting for spring. He is very spunky, and loves to talk. He is especially proud of "killing" his own meals, even if they are already dead! Merlin can't wait to get a sponsor! His sponsorship is $200.
"MISTRAL" male Red-Tailed Hawk	Mistral ran into some wire, and badly damaged his wing feathers. Subsequently, he has been plagued by a number of medical problems, but is well on his way to a full recovery. Mistral is full of spirit, and just refuses to give up! To sponsor Mistral, please contact us! His sponsorship fee is $200.
"WIZ" female Red-Tailed Hawk	Wiz is an extremely large and extremely smart bird. She has amazing powers of recognition--and she knows exactly what's for supper by the container I'm carrying. She is fearless and a power to be reckoned with. Wiz also had a run-in with a vehicle, and she is still recovering from her substantial injuries. Unfortunately, she has lost her one wing, and will not be releasable. To sponsor Wiz, contact us! Her sponsorship fee is $200.
