Orpingtons were originally developed in England, named after the town of Orpington, to be a dual purpose breed. They are fast growing and very calm natured, and as egg layers, they are superior. Their eggs are large to extra large and a light brown in color. Their docile nature make them an excellent breed for the backyard poultry enthusiast. Orpingtons have a single comb, clean legs, and are cold hardy because of their fluffy thick plumage. We are currently working with the lavendar color variation, also known as self-blue. Lavendars breed true, unlike blues. We are also working with the black mottled variety, which we find to be an interesting color variation and a very fast maturing group. We hope to have chocolate and chocolate cuckoo orpingtons available in the future as well.
